Hello everyone, this is Matthew Hemenway. In this video, I will be reviewing and analyzing the second book in the Stolen Kingdom series, The Jinni Key (A Little Mermaid Retelling) written by Bethany Atazadeh. I will let you know in this review if this book does an excellent job of feeling like A Little Mermaid or not. I will give you my rating at the end of this video. Thank you.

The second book of this series picks up where the last one left off. It starts with a flashback with Rena seeing Gideon falling from the sky. She rescues him and he told her his name is Gideon and that he was banished from the world of Jinn. He was banished because he was opposing Queen Jezebel as she would not allow her son who is the Prince of Jinn not to become the next in line to take the throne. It is a good example of power.

This takes place a year before Rena met Arie and went on her adventure to find Gideon as she believes that she is love with him and wants to prove that even if his of the Jinn, he can love her also. Her sister Yulya made a deal with Rena, prove that Gideon loves you, if not give the key to me and lose your ability to go back to the surface. This is no different than Ariel making a deal with Ursula, and she had to give up her voice to win the heart of Eric, a land lover as they would call him.

Rena goes on this adventure to win the heart of Gideon and she tries to see if she can, but she is finding it difficult and she believes him to be hard to deal with. Rena tells Arie, if you love Kadin, why not be with him? Arie tells her because I have a responsibility to Hodafez and I have a responsibility to serve this country as its queen. As was said in the last book, Arie had to take over after her father got sick thanks to Enoch and King Amir. Amir got away like Jafar did and he is still a threat as he can cause problems for Arie or anyone else.

Hodafez later gets taken and Rena goes and tells Kadin that you need to do something, but you cannot rush in without a plan. Rena also meets up with Bosh. Rena is finding it exceedingly difficult to get Gideon to relate to her. Gideon sees the key and wants her to give it to him. Rena tells him, you must go out with me. She finds out he does see her like she sees him. As the story progresses, Rena will find out someone else likes her, but I will not say who.

Hodafez got taken by Enoch and King Amir will show up later. I will not say anymore as not spoil anything. There is something sinister happening in the world of Jinn. King Amir of Sagh was obsessed with severing gifted women of their Jinni gifts. He believes there is no more dangerous than a gifted woman. This is no different than the Salem Witch trials that I mentioned in the last video.

What happened to Rena? Does she get to be with the one she loves? Who loves her? Who does she love? What happens to Arie and Kadin?

I give this story a 10 out of 10. I thought it did an excellent job of relating to the Little Mermaid, but also mixing Aladdin with this story. I found this to be remarkably interesting.
