Hello everyone, welcome to the Matta critic. This is Matthew Hemenway. In this episode of Matta Critic, I will be reviewing and analyzing Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 7 and Episode 8 that is currently on Disney+ done by Lucasfilm. The names of these episodes are called the Clone Conspiracy and Truth and Consequences. I will go over several topics and point out several Easter eggs in this episode. I hope this episode inspires to Read, Watch, and Learn. It involves a couple of clones who decide to tell the truth about Vice Admiral Rampart in his plan to get the funding for the recruitment bill. I will point out how dangerous lies are in this episode and how it will lead someone to commit murder to keep the truth hidden. I will give you my rating at the end of the review.
Please consider checking out my Facebook page to get links and check out the posts from YouTube, and Patreon. I have been posting links to my blog on my Facebook page, that you would want to check out at www.mattacritic.com/blog. The blog will have the written portion of the review as well as the YouTube video included there. Now on with the review.
It was surprising to see that they decided to do two episodes this week like they did when they released the first two episodes of this season in the season 2 premiere of this season. It was a good thing since the viewer would not want to wait until next week to see the next episode. They both flowed very well together, and tit felt like it could be one episode. There were two episodes, but they could have done it like they did the season 1 premiere of this season and decided to do one big episode. Either way they decided to do it, it worked well.
The first episode of this two-part episode is called the Clone Conspiracy. In this episode, Admiral Rampart is trying to cover up his involvement in the destruction of Kamino. He does not want it to get out of hand. He knows that if it is revealed, he could be in trouble and his so-called push for his recruitment bill would be dead and so will his career. As one of the advisers to Emperor Palpatine points out, if this bill is in trouble, you will be in trouble. You will be on thin ice.
The senator that wants to help clones reminds the viewer of real-life people who want to stand up for those that do not have a voice and her name is Ryu Chichi and she is voiced by Jennifer Hale. One of Jennifer Hale’s notable voice is in the 1990’s Spider-Man cartoon show when she voiced Felicia Hardy in that series, and you can watch that series on Disney+ which I will leave a link in the bottom of this blog post. The clones have no voice, and they were merely tools to be used by the Empire to get what they wanted. The emperor, when he was Chancellor Palpatine, used the excuse of the Separatist war to create this Army and wanted to gain ultimate power. He did that and he wants to have an excuse to create the Imperial Stormtrooper as another quote protecting the security of the Empire, but it will be another oppression tool for the emperor to use.
Bail Organa is also in this episode and warns Senator Chichi that she must be careful to upset the wrong people. You must be careful, but vigilant when doing the right thing.
This episode will have Captain Rex appear in it as he is trying to help a clone that needs him. Captain Rex realizes that they must fight the Empire and do the best they can.
The next episode is called Truth and Consequences. This makes sense as when a person tells the truth, there will be consequences. Those may ask, how is it possible? It is because there is always a pushback when people want to tell the truth. There are those that want to keep things as they are. Yes, a person should always tell the truth, but it does not mean it cannot be twisted and used for nefarious purposes.
This episode and the episode before it is proof of that. There are those who want to live lies and not face the ugly truth of reality. There is too much proof of that in the real world. There are those who want to cover up their misdeeds because they have an agenda and want to get that agenda passed no matter what. It does happen and it is unfortunate, but it does. This happens with Vice Admiral Rampart that he will do whatever it takes to get his bill passed. He does not care about how it gets done, as long as it does.
The Bad Batch with Omega only shows up in the second episode of this two-part episode released on Disney+. It works as they did not need to show up until this episode. These skills will come in handy to help Captain Rex with this mission. It will not go the way they hope it will.
There is a senator of Kaminoan descent that will reluctantly help Senator Chichi in her quest to fight for the clones and get the truth out there. It will help, but it will take time for this to work. Omega convinces the Kaminoan senator to do the right thing as she is a clone and that her home was destroyed by Admiral Rampart.
As not to be revealed, nothing more will not be revealed here. It does bring these two episodes to the climax and set up episode 9. This means this season is halfway through the season and there will be 8 episodes left.
I will give you, my rating. I give Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 Episodes 7 to 8, a 10 out 10. It was fun, but it shows the true nature of cover-ups by people in power. When there is a government like the empire that is a dictatorship, it will have people cover it up because they do not want the public to get the truth. Their hope is that if people are left in the dark, they will not be able to understand something clearly in the end which is the light. The dark is lies, and the light is truth in this context. These two episodes were not simple and that was what made them good and fun to watch. It was good that they released episode 7 and 8 this week as it meant the viewer did not have to wait until next week. It worked well as a 2-part Mid-Season finale that would be used in traditional TV like you would have seen on CW TV shows.
