Hello everyone, welcome to the Matta critic. This is Matthew Hemenway. Have I got a review for you? In this episode of Mattacritic, I will be reviewing and analyzing Magic Camp that is currently on Disney+. I will go over several topics in this video. This movie will deal with a magic camp that is up in the mountains and these kids must learn from those that went to the institute. Some are magicians like Andy Tuckerman who are not performing anymore and just need help to find out what he needs to do. I hope this episode will inspire to Read, Watch, and Learn. I will give you my rating at the end of this episode.
Please consider checking out my Facebook page where I have been posting links to Patreon and YouTube. I will also have been posting links to my blog that you want to check out which is www.mattacritic.com/blog. The blog will have the written portion of the review as well as the YouTube video being included there as well. Thank you. Now on with the review.
Magic Camp came out on Disney+ in 2020. It was one of the original movies that launched on Disney+ besides the Secret Society of Second Born Royals. Both movies came out during the pandemic which is known as COVID-19. I remember seeing the trailer for Secret Society of Second Born Royals before COVID-19 and they originally planned for both movies come out straight to Disney+. It is a year that brought many challenges.
The name of the camp is the Institute of Magic and is run by Roy Preston. Roy has the camp up in the mountains and has cabins like a camp would have. It reminds me of Camp Harrison where the YMCA has a facility here in my home state of NC which is in Wilkes County. It allowed my church to have a few Men retreats up there. My church stopped doing them back in 2010. No, COVID-19 did not stop it, my church just stopped doing them.
The Institute of Magic is recruiting Theo Moses who is played by Nathaniel McIntyre. Theo at the beginning of the movie is playing with his cards. His mother catches him and asks him, "Are you doing magic? Theo tells her not, but as the viewer can see that is a lie. Theo is about doing magic tricks with his cards. His cards of choice are poker cards. I will have you watch the trailer for the movie.

I am back. The trailer shows how the kids must learn and that Andy Tuckerman has some baggage and is driving a taxi in this movie. This movie will have him helping the kids, but he will also get help as well from them. Roy Preston has a trick up his sleeve, you can say. As the kids will say, you’re not even driving an Uber?
Well Theo is not the only one that learns something. Andy Tuckerman needed to deal with his past and what happened with Christina Darkwood. Andy gets help from these kids as well as he must conclude with what he is supposed to do. Theo is known for getting cards and he gets nervous. He needs help from Andy Duckerman to learn how to do this Andy Tuckerman was angry at Christina Darkwood. Andy Ducker man wanted his own show, and it was called Aber Duo.
Does Theo overcome something? The answer is yes. Theo does; he must deal with a kid that is in the diamonds called the Vic who wants to bully him as well as his friends. Vic is one of those that wants to win at all costs. Theo must overcome his fear of performing in front of people. Theo gets help from Andy and realizes that he can do it.
Does Theo have a girl he likes in the film? The answer is yes. Theo does have a girl that he likes in the film. Her name is Janelle Santos who does not want to be there, but later she realizes that it is worth doing this.
Am I going to reveal any more to you in this review. No, I will not as I do not want to spoil it anymore. It does bring the viewer to the climax and to the understanding of what this movie is about.
What rating do I give this film? I give Magic Camp, a 10 out 10. It is fun, educational, and has beautiful scenery in the film. It shows not all magic is making people disappear. It also tells the viewer that a mentalist is a magician as well as those that do card tricks. All the characters grow in this movie and the viewer sees the importance of having friends and no one does anything on their own. It shows that each person may think they know their path, but life has a way of directing us to the right path. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
