Joe Pickett Season 2 Review and Analysis on Paramount+

Blog and Video Description: In this episode of the Mattacritic, I will be reviewing and analyzing Joe Pickett Season 2 that is currently on Paramount+. I will go over several topics in this episode. When the viewer watches season 2, he or she will see a recap of the 1st season. The 1st season was based on the first book of Open Season and had parts of the third book of Winterkill according to Wikipedia. The 2nd season of Joe Pickett consists of 3 books of Blood Trail, Nowhere to Run, and Force of Nature. Blood Trail is the 8th book of the Joe Pickett book series, and this is where they pulled characters such as Klamath Moore, Shenandoah, Buck Lothar, Charlie Conway, Randy Pope, and the dead hunter of Frank Urman who has his chopped off and left strung up like a dead animal. Nowhere to Run is the 10th book of the Joe Pickett series and it pulls characters such as Caleb and Camish Grimmengruber. The scene in the forest where Joe Pickett catches Caleb Grim fishing is accurate to the book. Joe does catch him fishing in Nowhere to Run, and he goes up with him to meet his brother on the log. They hate the government for a good reason as the government took their land by eminent domain to develop a bigger business as it quotes would generate more tax dollars for the government to have. Joe Pickett will get his satellite phone stolen and this accurate to the book, and he gets shot with an arrow as well as have his horse killed and eaten by the Grim brothers is accurate to the book. In Force of Nature, Nate Romanski is being hunted by John Nemcek and that is accurate to the book that they pulled to use for the 2nd season of Joe Pickett. Nate Romanski being shot by a bunch of hunters claiming that their father having a heart attack is accurate and he must kill them before he gets killed is accurate to the book. I will give you my rating at the end of the review. I hope this episode will inspire you to read, watch, and learn.

As was mentioned before in this review, the 2nd season of this series pulls from 3 books of the Joe Pickett book series. The 3 books are Blood Trail, Nowhere to Run, and Force of Nature. The first episode of the 2nd season of Joe Pickett pulls a lot from Blood Trail and Nowhere to Run. Marybeth Pickett asks Joe Pickett to search for a missing hunter that has not returned. Marybeth Pickett has been representing the wife of the missing hunter. The hunter’s name is Frank Urman, and the wife’s name is Blair Urman. The character Luke Brueggeman was pulled from the Force of Nature book. This character in that book was a wildcard. Luke Bruggeman is not who the reader thinks he is in that book. In the series, it appears Luke Bruggeman is just an innocent kid. The season will leave it open to that. Joe Pickett will be hunted down after he encounters the Grim brothers, and those characters are in Nowhere to Run book in the woods as mentioned before in this review.

The 2nd episode of the 2nd season of Joe Pickett series will have Joe Pickett running for his life with a wounded leg with an arrow sticking in his leg. Joe Pickett will get in a house, and he runs into a woman who is a mystery. In that book of Nowhere to Run, Joe Pickett does run into a woman, but it is a different woman than in this episode. If you know who answers, please leave your answers in the comment section below. Thank you. Joe Pickett will end up in the hospital and Marybeth Pickett will ask him when he is there, are you trying to get yourself killed? Joe Pickett is dealing with the trauma of being abused by his father George Pickett. His mother Sadie Pickett was abused by his father George Pickett who is a drunk. Joe’s brother committed suicide by driving his car off a hill in Yellowstone National Park.

The season will progress with Klamath Moore using the body of the dead hunter whose name is Frank Urman in his campaign to End the Slaughter. Klamath Moore wants to protect innocent animals and he believes that hunting is cruel. There are trophy hunters that hunt animals for sport and cut off the head and put the head of that animal as a plaque in their business or house. This is true as there have been prominent people that shot animals from a helicopter to just for sport. These people are horrible. This is an unfortunate set of events, but it happens more than any decent person would like to see. Hunters help to curb down the herd and if there is no natural predator, you need hunters to curb the herd down. This is taught in science class and if you have too many animals, you need to curb the herd down. This is called a carrying capacity, this is why nature has other animals that are predators to these animals so the herd can be curbed down.

Klamath Moore is invited by Sheridan Pickett’s teacher, and he is telling the children that this is murder. If one is asking, this is accurate to Blood Trail as this was in that book. Sheridan Pickett will call Klamath Moore an asshole. She tells him that it is important for animals to be hunted as it is important to make sure the population does not go over the carrying capacity. Carrying capacity is taught in biology class and is one the most basic things one can learn. Joe Pickett is asked to pick up Sheridan Pickett from class. The teacher tells him, we have an antibullying policy at this school. Joe asks her, who does she pick on? Sheridan tells Joe that it was Klamath Moore. Joe says, what is that asshole doing in my daughter’s class? The teacher cannot believe his response and Joe tells Sheridan, you are not in trouble, you will get an ice cream.

Joe Pickett is dealing with personal pain that he does not want to deal with. The school counselor that has been helping Sheridan with her grief tells Joe Pickett that if you do not deal with this, it can manifest itself in unimaginable ways. Grief and pain do not stay buried forever. It is true as I would tell you I was in a horrible accident where I was T-boned. I know about burying pain. I have done it and like Joe Pickett; whether he wants to admit it or not, he cannot do this on his own. As a friend told me, it is never good when you try to do things yourself. It is good when we get help, and as I keep learning if you have good friends in your life, they really do not mind helping you. It is not selfish to ask for help, no one is an island to him or herself.

The season will progress, and the series will let the viewers know why the hunters are being killed. Randy Pope finds a head of the dead hunter of Frank Urman in his room. It is accurate to the book of Blood Trail. Randy Pope gets freaked out and that is understandable. If any person found the dead head of a human being in their bedroom, it would be unnerving to say the least.

Randy Pope is important in this season as he does become Joe Pickett’s new boss, and he wants to fire him. In the book of Blood Trail, Joe Pickett was fired by Randy Pope, but is working for the governor as an independent contractor. Randy Pope is upset with Joe Pickett for handcuffing Wally Conway to the steering wheel of his car. Wally Conway gets shot as well as Luke Bruggeman. It was a distinctive character in the book. Randy Pope gets upset with Joe Pickett, and Joe is choking Randy and if the Sheriff does not stop him; he will kill him. Joe Pickett is furious as to what has happened to Luke. It was a cluster fuck as Buck Lothar was killed by the nephew of the dead hunter that had his head chopped off. This is accurate to the book of Blood Trail as well.

Randy Pope will be arrested for being Wolverine on Stop the Slaughter. In the book, the character of Wolverine was a different individual. It has changed, but it works here. Randy Pope will be in jail for killing the hunter known as Frank Urman. Randy Pope will tell Joe Pickett that Frank was his friend and that he would never try to kill him. Randy Pope will be used later as bait to lure the killer out. Everyone in the book believes it to be Klamath Moore as they believed him to be the killer. Klamath Moore was suspected of killing these hunters to help his agenda and he was hoping to make them pay for raping his wife of Shenandoah. Randy Pope is the bait. The Sheriff will kill Klamath Moore as he believed he had a weapon. Klamath Moore has a phone instead of a gun. The real killer of these hunters is Shenandoah as she was raped. This is accurate to the book. The series will have her live instead of being killed off. This is a change to the book, but it works here. Nate Romanski was with Joe Pickett in the trap they set for the killer of these hunters.

There is concern among the Scarletts as they are concerned about the person who may be able to identify them to the rapes that were happening to these young women. These women were tricked into being cooks and then they were led into being raped. The young women were given a drink that contained ecstasy. Especially mixed with alcohol, ecstasy can depilate a person and can cause a person to pass out. It is the rape drug and is used in most common rapes. These are serial rapists, and they are looking for a reason to have sex. These people that were killed raped Shenandoah and is understandable to why she kills them. The police did not believe her, and it is not unheard of for them not to.

The Grim brothers are protecting the woman that was in the cabin that helped to heal Joe Pickett to health. The Grim brothers were wronged by the state of Michigan when their land was taken by the government to give to some wealthy developer to develop a new business. The Grim brothers had a meat packing business, but it was taken over by eminent domain. Eminent domain is not unheard of, and the government can take land by eminent domain. It is legal, but it does not make it right. The Grim brothers must protect the woman that the Scarletts are looking for before she can identify Hank Scarlett as one of the men that raped her and every other woman that was tricked to be the cook for these men that went on these hunting trips.

The scene where Nate Romanski calls Joe Pickett on the pay phone is accurate. He tells the dispatcher of the Game and Fish in Cheyene, WY that he needs the game warden to come. He tells Joe Pickett that there is a man after him, and he needs to go into hiding. This scene is accurate to the book of Force of Nature.

As not to be revealed, nothing more will be revealed here. It does bring the season to the climax and if Paramount wanted to, they could do another season.

I will give you, my rating. I give Joe Pickett Season 2, a 10 out of 10. It was fun, but it touches on issues that needed to be talked about. The series does an excellent job of staying true to Joe Pickett and the characters in the books of Joe Pickett. It talks about the issues of rape, and usually if women report to the police that they have been raped; no one believes them. They are considered crazy, or it was the woman’s fault that she was raped in the 1st place. The excuse is if you were not as attractive as you are, then this would not happen to you. It is blaming the victim for being a victim. It is not like blaming the victim, if a person got mugged, or murdered. This is unfortunate, but this happens more than any decent person would like to see. It is understandable why Shenandoah killed these men. These men were serial rapists and unless someone stopped them, they would destroy more lives. Eminent domain is important as if there is eminent domain, the government can seize land for any reason. It does not make it right, but it is not illegal. This is what happens to the Grim brothers, and it is accurate to the book of Nowhere to Run. Joe Pickett dealing with the pain of his childhood is powerful and this helps to humanize this character. Males are bad about letting others help them as they see this as weakness, and this is unfortunate. As I told you before, I know all too well about burying pain and have not told many people about it. I have told 2 people about it and in time, their love and friendship have helped me. I thank them for their help, and it means a lot. It is never easy to ask for help, but it is important to do so. Managing the pain is important, and one never is completely free of the pain, but if a person gets help for it, it helps. Joe tells Marybeth that he has a tough time asking for help. Marybeth tells him, "I will be glad to help you; all you must do is ask.” The changes are good. Just like with any adaptation. Look at comic book movies and TV series, it is not always a carbon copy of those books. What any good adaptation does is that it keeps the essence of those characters, and the viewer knows that this is what these characters would do, and it stays true that, then that is all that matters. It is unfortunate that this series has been cancelled. It is particularly good, and personally it would be good to see more episodes. If Paramount decides not to go that way, they can make a movie about Joe Pickett. Personally, it would be great to see.
