Hello everyone, welcome to the Matta critic. This is Matthew Hemenway. In this episode of Matta Critic, I will be reviewing and analyzing the Book “Into the Woods, a Jack Sheridan Mystery, book 3, published by Vince Vogel in 2017 and is available on amazon.com and is a self-published book. What this book does is that it has kidnapping, torture, murder, and rape of young girls in this story. It also shows the nature of an addiction such as to drugs. I will give you my rating at the end of the review.

Please consider checking out my Facebook page to get links and check out the posts from YouTube, TikTok and Patreon. I have been posting links to my blog that you want to check out on my Facebook page, it is www.mattacritic.com/blog. I hope this episode inspires you to read, watch, and learn. Now on with the review.

The book starts with the kidnapping of Lucy and Anna Jenkins. Carl Jenkins, their father, was taking them on a camping trip when he was attacked and later beaten with his girls taken. It is believed that Carl is innocent, and the reader would not suspect him of anything.

Jack Sheridan meets with DCI Hobbs after he had Carrie attend an AA like meeting for drug addicts. She tells them that she is trying to go back to school. Jack is hoping this will work for his daughter Carrie since she has a son. Jack knows that. As you all know, I reviewed Clay House on this channel, and it tells the story that Carrie was working as a prostitute, and she was addicted to drugs. Hobbs is the one where Jack took his ID to help rescue Carrie from criminals that took her to make Jack tell where a person was being kept safe for witness protection. Hobbs tells Jack that he will be partnered with Alice Newman who is a detective inspector. He tells Jack that is a good police officer (cop). You need to be on your best behavior around her. She is in her 30’s.

This book tells of the legend of the Blackwood witch that has been haunting the woods for years. This village believes that entity took the girls like a ghost or a phantom. What the reader thinks he/she knows, he/she does not. It will have twists and turns.

There is a person named Fergus Thompson who people also call Major. Major runs the hotel that Jack and Alice end up staying in. Jack gets to know Ron Yates who is a local police officer (cop) there. Ron is a detective that works for this village police department. Fergus Thompson will surprise the reader and the reader will not know.

There are several players in this story who the reader thinks they know, but they do not. Gloria Jenkins is upset with her husband for losing their girls. She is having an affair in this story. This upsets Carl to say the least and Carl has mental issues to say the least. Please leave your answer to what happened to Carl in the comment section below. Thank you.

Suzzane Gough went missing years ago back in the 1990’s and people think she is dead including her mother, Emma Howe. Emma Howe has layers and tries to flirt with Jack Sheridan while he is in a relationship with Jean who is looking after Ty and Carrie.

Speaking of Carrie, she has a relapse and Jack Sheridan must go back to London to get her. He decides she needs to quit cold turkey. She needs to have a change of scenery if she is going to get better. Jack knows if he kicks her out, she will just be more likely to turn to drugs.

Jack thinks the change of scenery will be good for Carrie. This will be proven to be wrong. Something bad will happen and I do not want to reveal it here. What happens to Jack and Carrie? If you know the answer, please leave your answer in the comment section below. Thank you.

There are many bad people in this story as well as good people. This story has layers, and not everything the reader thinks he/she does not. The layers are like an onion and a person does not always know what is there underneath until the onion is peeled. This is no different than people and this will hold true in this story.

As not to be revealed, nothing more will be revealed here. It does bring the reader to the climax of the story and will set up the next book in the Jack Sheridan series. If you are enjoying what I am giving you in this review, then you want to read the 11 books in this series. It will be worth it to read.

I will give you, my rating. I give Into the Woods, A Jack Sheridan Book Mystery Book 3, a 10 out of 10. It was fun but tells an immensely powerful story. It keeps the reader guessing, and what the reader thinks he/she knows, he/she does not. There are several players in this story, and it is not what the reader expects. It delivers again. It makes the reader want to read the next book. This is a plus if a person likes a book that keeps him/her guessing and not knowing what to expect. With an 11-year-old girl going missing from Cornelius, it does tie into that and wonder if the parents had something to do with it. The only downside is that it does not come with an audio version, but it does affect my rating for this book. It would make it hard for a person to travel since it does not come with it if operating a vehicle, but if one is taking a long bus ride or long plane ride, it makes a great read.
