Updated: Dec 15, 2023

Synopsis: In this video or blog, I will go over several details of why Yelena was after Clint and what Kate ends up deciding to do after Clint toward her to back off. I also point out several Easter eggs in this episode. I also give you my rating at the end of the video. If you want to know, then you want to watch this video or read this blog.

Hello everyone, Matthew Hemenway here. In this video, I will be reviewing and analyzing Hawkeye Season 1 Episode 5 currently on Disney+. I have been impressed how good this series has been so far. It has met all my expectations. I will now go over several topics that I saw as well as point Easter Eggs that I saw. I will give my rating at the end of this video.

In the beginning of this episode, we see Yelena trying to cure the Black Widows that were programmed into being no more than human weapons or trained killers. To be honest you hear Natasha’s voice, and you could watch Black Widow and start watching this episode is that both Black Widow movie and this episode at the beginning have the same tone. Yelena is wearing the same suit that we saw her wear in Black Widow. We see her and another person trying to cure this person whose name is Anna and they thought it was not her house. We find out that this is her house. They are surprised since they believed there is no way she could afford this. We find out that she has been using her skills of being a trained killer to attain this lifestyle. Later, we see Yelena being snapped away. As we first learned, it was called the blip as they would have called it in Spider-Man: Far from Home.

Yelena comes back 5 years later and the woman she was with is now married and has kids. Her husband is shocked to see her in their house. Anna tells her that she was blipped because she was there by herself. Yelena wants to find Natasha and let her know that she is okay. As we know as we saw in the end of Black Widow; Yelena would have learned that was not the case as Natasha had died trying to retrieve the Soul Stone.

The first scene we see after Yelena is brought back is that Kate goes back to the Penthouse feeling rejected and defeated and she is in tears. She tells her mother that she wanted to help. She tells her mother that Clint protected her, and he told her to back off. Kate tells her mother that she was trying to be like her father. Her mother tells her that she is like her father that he was reckless in the risks that he took. Kate asks her mother; do you regret buying me that bow? Her mother tells her no.

It flashes back to Clint being let in by the firefighter/larper whose name is Grills into his apartment. We hear Christmas music during this scene, and it is from the 1965 Peanuts classic. Clint is feeling the pressure of having to get this done. As we know he told Kate to back off not because Eleanor asked him to, but because of the guilt of having Natasha dying trying to retrieve the soul stone as we saw in Avengers: Endgame.

Kate later goes to her apartment and finds Yelena at her apartment. Yes, it was Yelena that was in the mask at the end of the 4th episode. As we all know this was revealed to us in the end credits scene of Black Widow that she would play a significant role in this series. Remember it was Julia Louis Dreyfus character that gave Yelena a picture of Clint Barton to take him out. That character was first introduced to us in the Falcon and Winter solider series. Yelena is eating macaroni with Kate and tells Kate that she likes putting Hot Sauce on her food. Yelena would remind me of my brother Mark as he likes Hot Sauce on most food. Yelena tells Kate that she was sent here to kill Clint Barton. She tells Kate that he is not a good man and that he has a body trail of blood that goes around the world. Yelena tells Kate that she knows everything about her up to her grade point average in college which is a 3.8 GPA. She would make the Chancellor’s list or the President’s list depending on the university.

We jump later to Clint going to the memorial of the first Avengers battle and he tells Natasha that he has been trying to get this dealt with. He told her that he must do things that are necessary but operate on the gray. He later calls his wife Laura and told him, he has no choice but to put the Ronin suit on again to protect her and their children. Laura tells him to follow his gut. He tells Laura that the Big Guy is involved in this.

Kate tries to call Clint and tell him that you are being targeted by Yelena. Kate tells him that this is not over, and she knows she cannot just stand by and do nothing. Kate lets Clint know that the police arrested Jack after she told her mom that Clint and she find out that Jack was the CEO of Sloan, Ltd which laundered money for the Track Suit Mafia. Jack is a piece of the puzzle, but is he the major player in this? This is a question that I believe needs to be answered.

Clint decides to encounter the Track Suit Mafia and shoots an arrow in their car. He tells them they need to let Maya AKA Echo they need to meet. As we all learn, Maya agrees to meet with Ronin. Clint as Ronin knocks out the men there as well as her Number 2. Ronin gets to Maya and knocks her against a car, he takes his mask off and lets her see that he is Clint Barton. Clint tells her he wanted her to see her face. Maya tells him, you are a monster for killing my father. Clint told her; it was your father’s boss that wanted me to kill him. He tells her that he was a weapon pointed in rage and you must be careful as well not let that rage influence your actions. The book cover I showed you my last review of this series is My Life is a weapon which I will have a picture come up now. He tells her that there was an informant that worked for your father. Maya tries to kill Clint, but Kate shoots her arrow toward her and knocks the Ronin sword out of her hand and saves Clint from being killed. I also caught Fat Man Used Cars which leads us to Kingpin. The reason I know this leads us to Kingpin is the first time I heard the word Fat Man was in the 1990s Spider-Man cartoon show. It was the 2nd episode of the Neogonic Nightmare Season. You can watch this show on Disney+.

Maya encounters her number 2 whose name is Kazi after she escaped from Clint and Kate and asks him, you were my father’s number 2, where were you that night when he was killed? He tells her that his number was not called. This tells me, he had something to do with this.

Kate and Clint escape to Grills apartment. She tells Grills that you can cook and do all this other stuff. Yelena tells Kate, who hired her. As we learned Kate told her at her apartment to ask yourself who hired you? It leads to an interesting team up. I will not tell you who as I want to find out by watching this episode. I liked the fact that it ends with How the Grinch stole Christmas music. I also liked the music in this series so far. I personally think that it has hit the right tone since this series takes place during Christmas.

I give this episode a 10 out of 10 rating. As I told you in my review and analysis of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings that this is Marvel and I trust Marvel. As I would have said in my last video, Marvel takes their time, and they know what they are doing. Marvel has done an excellent job of leading us up to this reveal and not have it be early in the series. I cannot wait to watch the Season Finale of this series. I also watched Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 16, 2021 and will do a review and analysis in the next video.
