Hey everyone, Matthew Hemenway here. In this video or blog, I will be reviewing the Disney Channel Original Movie Alley Cats Strike which is on Disney Plus that came out in 2000. I have seen Alley Cats Strike several times and what I can tell you is I really like this movie. I realized that it is a Disney Channel movie released for TV. You know what, I have seen several of those movies in the past before Disney Plus and I have usually been impressed with the quality of those movies. This movie is no different in the fact that it is a quality movie.
The narrator of the movie is Alex Thompson played by Kyle Schmid. Kyle does an excellent job bringing that character to life. I like how he describes his relationship to Elisha played by Kaley Cuoco, Ken Long played by Joey Wilcots, and Delia Grace played by Mimi Paley. He tells you that Elisha is a great bowler, so do not be fooled by the way she dresses. Ken likes all music if they are 50 years old. He tells us that Delia what she lacks with brawn, she makes up with brain.
Alex tells us that the town of West Appleton is a great town, and he loves living there. I can agree as the scenery is perfect. It has beautiful trees as you can tell it is fall and the leaves are changing color and you can see leaves on the ground. It does an incredibly excellent job using the scenery to tell the story.
Alex loves bowling as he tells the viewer that this is how the world should be all the time. He later tells the viewer, then there is school. He does not see what he has in common with Todd McLemore who is played by Robert Richard at the beginning of the movie. Their town of West Appleton is fighting for the Mighty Apple trophy against East Appleton.
It is the last year of the Mighty Apple and the last thing that West Appleton wants is for the Mighty Apple to go to East Appleton. Both towns feel the same way as the other does not want the other to get the Mighty Apple. It is no different when you have college football like Wisconsin and Minnesota not wanting the other not getting Paul Bunyan’s ax.
Later in the movie, Alex and Todd start to develop a friendship with each other. They learn that their dads used to be best friends. Alex said to his dad, “No way you and the mayor.” His dad said, “That is right me and the mayor. There is nothing more than we like then our kids to bring the apple back to the west.”
The fight for the apple creates a rift amongst the team, who are Alex’s best friends. It takes them all to realize, especially Todd, that winning is not everything. Todd realizes that he wants Alex with him when they face East Appleton. He realizes that we will not have any fun if Alex is not there. They end up resolving their issues and realize they have a responsibility to each other. What happens in how the movie ends will shock you. I will say as I do not want to spoil the ending.
Overall, I give this movie a 9 out 10. I like the scenery of the movie. I love how the characters grow in the movie. The ending will surprise you in how the trophy ends up.
