Big Shot Shot Season 1 Review and Analysis on Disney+

Description: Review and Analysis of Big Shoot Season 1 on Disney+. I will go over several topics in this blog or video. I will let you know what I think of Season 1. I will point out how Marvyn Korn must learn how to navigate the world of girls’ high school basketball and how they are different than coaching boys. He will have to learn to be a parent and not just a provider to his daughter Emma. If you want to know more, you want to watch this video or read this blog. Thank you.

In this episode of Matta Critic. I will be reviewing and analyzing Big Shot Season 1 which is currently on Disney+. I will go over several topics in this episode. If you want to know more, keep reading this blog or watching this video if you are doing it that way. I will give you my rating at the end of this episode. Now on with the review. The link to my YouTube channel to watch any of the videos that I have done is www.youtube.com/@mattacritc. You can also hit the YouTube logo on the website if you are on my website of www.mattacritic.com. Thank you.

Season 1 starts off with Marvyn Korn getting fired from Wisconsin. As was said in the first season, he was fired because he threw a chair. His agent got him a job at Westbrook High School. He finds out that the school is an all-girl school. He has been used to coaching males, not females. He was used to coaching, young men, now he must coach teenage girls on the cusp of becoming young women. He is told by Principal Sherilyn Thomas that he is on thin ice and needs to be sure not to mess this up. Marvyn realizes that he must walk that fine line. When he throws a chair, this is like Bobby Knight. Bobby Knight was known for throwing chairs. Bobby Knight threw chairs and they had to have the chair nailed to the ground to keep him from throwing a chair at Indiana. There are plenty of instances where Bobby Knight threw chairs when he coached at Indiana. I do not believe he did that when he coached at Texas Tech.

Marvyn will have to learn to deal with Holly. Holly is interested in being a head coach. The school did not want to do that at first. They are more interested in her being an assistant at this moment in the series.

Marvyn wanted to recruit a star player and he wanted to do two a day workout. Marvyn knew that he wanted to get this team in shape. In the first episode, he was tough on Destiny and told her that she needed to lose weight. Destiny went to his office and told him that it was harsh, and that it only makes people feel bad. This made Marvyn think about what she said, and he produced an innovative approach. Marvyn suspended Louise Gruzinsky and Principal Thomas was not happy that he did that. Marvyn told her he had to because she was disrespecting his practice. Louise is driving erratically at school and Marvyn gets in her car. Marvyn tells her that we can say that you are injured and that is the reason you are not playing. Marvyn is bending but not breaking. He understands what she is telling him that it could ruin her chances to play college basketball.

Marvyn grows in this season. Marvyn has his daughter Emma come to live with him. Emma helps him to stay grounded. She loves working in theater and the drama teacher decides to date Marvin. She made the moves on him. Harper is the drama teacher’s daughter and the school reporter. Harper is the one that has the report on Marvyn Korn that he threw his career away when he threw that chair. Marvyn realizes that Harper is right. Emma tells Marvyn that this good in that this humanizes you.

Emma has a party like a person would expect to see in high school and it goes wrong. Her dad goes to see it. Holly reminds him that you need to be strong but understanding. This happens, but you must not let your emotions get in the way.

Marvyn wants to recruit Savannah Gibson who is a hell of a player. He thought if he recruited her, it would help to get them to Division 2. Holly reminds him that it can send a bad message to the current players on the team. They may believe they are getting cut from the team. Marvyn realizes that he is wrong here but decides to use the scholarship to keep Olive on the team. As he tells Olive’s parents that Olive is a work horse and would rather have ten players like Olive on the team.

Olive is good with social media and Principal Thomas tells her to use it to help promote the team’s run to Division 2. Olive does what Principal Thomas tells her and it will pay off for her and will help the team along the way. Being good with social media will help a person with the way the world is going, no matter what.

Marvyn Korn thought he wanted to go back to college ball, but as this season progresses, he finds out he would rather stay at Westbrook. He loves coaching the Sirens and realizes he has been the shiny penny. Marvin realized that he needs to do something for his daughter, but he needs to stay with these girls as they need him. The irony is that Marvin needs them too and it takes him to the end of this season to realize that.

This story reminds me of Hosiers, a disgraced college coach that ends up coaching high school basketball. I will leave a link for you to watch Hosiers in the description below. I would recommend Hosiers to watch as it is worth watching. Another Basketball movie, I would recommend is Glory Road. If you want me to review, please let me know in the comment section below, if you are interested in me doing that in the YouTube video included in this blog. Thank you.

Marvyn Korn looks remarkably like Rick Pitino. I will have the two pictures come up now so you can compare them. The pictures that you will see are in the video and there will be a reference to them at the end of the blog or you can watch the YouTube video that is included in this blog.

As not to be revealed, nothing more will be revealed here. It does bring the viewer to the climax of this season and set up Season 2.

I will give you, my rating. I give Big Shot Season 1, a 10 out of 10. It was fun, but it shows the nature of competition in the game of Basketball. Each one of these characters grows in this show. Marvyn realizes it is okay to take a step back. Instead of looking to always move up, it is good to teach players about the game and life. When you are coaching at the high school level, you get to do just that. A college coach teaches, but at high school, you know you are instructing these students. This show has ten episodes and they do build off each other. The first season did them once a week and the second season dropped them all at once. That is a good thing.
